POLICE: Man throws stolen gun from St. Augustine gun shop as he runs from officers

Ronald Salley Jr. fled on foot and threw an object, which turned out to be a stolen firearm from a St. Augustine gun store robbery, the sheriff's office said.

Police helicopter video captured the moments when an Orlando man ran from police through a neighborhood Tuesday. That man is connected to a burglary of 40 guns from a St. Augustine gun store.

Tuesday, around 4 a.m., three suspects broke into Top Gun Supply in St. Augustine on State Road 16.  On Wednesday, police said about 40 guns were stolen.

According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, deputies became aware of a stolen BMW in the area of the gun store around the time of the crime.

Later that day, the Edgewater Police Department located that vehicle, which they say was being driven by 23-year-old Orlando native, Ronald Salley Jr.

Police say a woman and child were also in the car.

When police made contact with him, Salley fled the area on foot and police saw him throw an object. That object turned out to be one of the stolen firearms from the St. Augustine gun store robbery, the sheriff's office said.

Salley was taken into custody by the Edgewater Police Department. When the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office attempted to speak to with him, he invoked his rights and requested an attorney.

Deputies are currently working with Central Florida agencies to further the investigation.

Salley is booked into the Volusia County Jail on a $37,000 bond and faces multiple charges:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance
