21-year-old man dead after motorcycle crashes over the side of Nichols Creek Bridge near Heckscher Drive

A motorcyclist was traveling Northbound on State Road 105 on the bridge when he lost control of his motorcycle, struck the concrete barrier and went over its side.

One man is dead after the motorcycle he was traveling on crashed over the side of Nichols Creek Bridge Saturday near Heckscher Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. 

FHP said the crash happened just before 3 p.m. Saturday. The 21-year-old motorcyclist from Maryland was traveling Northbound on State Road 105 on the bridge when he lost control of his motorcycle, struck the concrete barrier and went over the side of the bridge, according to FHP. 

At 2:15 p.m, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said marine ground units were called to search for the motorcyclist. Just after 2:30 p.m., JFRD reported both the motorcycle and driver were located. FHP said the motorcyclist came to a final rest in the marsh area below the bridge. 

FHP said he suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
