First playground of its kind in Jacksonville set to open later this year

Right now, in Jacksonville, there are no public playgrounds which serve children who cannot use traditional playground equipment.

The first playground of its kind is set to open later this year in the Arlington area that will allow children with all abilities to play carefree.

The City of Jacksonville is set to open its first fully-inclusive public playground in late 2019. The playground will feature equipment for children of all abilities will replace the existing playground at Huffman Boulevard Park.

The city is working with Henry’s HeRoeson this project, a nonprofit created in memory of Henry Robert Kruck who passed away in 2017 at just three and a half years old. He was born with a chromosome disorder which caused several congenital defects and developmental delays.

Right now, in Jacksonville, there are no public playgrounds which serve children like Henry who cannot use traditional playground equipment.

Builders say that the play-space will offer engaging play experiences for all children, regardless of their ability.
